About Thea

Thea Skanes, Certified USA Triathlon (Level 1) and Certified Ironman Coach, has more than 15 years of triathlon experience.  Her knowledge of swimming is acquired from her participation in competitions along with teaching classes of all levels from beginners to masters.  She holds a WSI certificate and in 2010, she became a certified Total Immersion Swim Coach and left the brand in April 2016.   Learning Total Immersion herself, enabled her to finish her first Half Ironman 40 minutes faster than expected.

After running in four marathons, countless half marathons and other road races Thea began searching for another sport that would provide a challenge for her competitive spirit.  It was not until her mid thirties when friends introduced her to the world of triathlons.  She purchased a bike and in a short period of time, she excelled in cycling as well.  Participating in triathlons soon became, and remains her passion.  She consistently places in the top five in her age group in sprint and olympic triathlons.  In recent years, she has preferred to compete in the Half Ironman races and completed Ironman Louisville in 2011.  Her accomplishments have recently qualified her for the 2010,2011, 2015 and 2016 Age Group Nationals. In 2015, she qualified once again for Age Group Nationals by winning her age group at the Patriot 70.3 with an 18 minute PR.

Thea can help you achieve all your goals that relate to competing in triathlons or simply getting into better shape through swimming, biking and running.  Her enthusiasm for these sports is contagious and more likely than not, you too will be bitten by the triathlon bug.  In addition, her knowledge of weight training and heart rate training can take you to your next level of fitness.
